Dedicated by the Springboro Wind Symphony Trombone Section
With Heart and Voice
David Gillingham
Cristian held the Dorothy and John Hermanies Chair and served as the Principal Trombonist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He joined the CSO in 1999 at the age of 22 after studying in his native country of Romania at the National University of Music Bucharest-Romania. He continued his studies in the United States with a Master of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and DMA (two years-unfinished) at Rutgers University.
Unfortunately, Cristian passed away in October after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is remembered professionally for his impeccably prepared, elegant playing that was refined, expressive, and lyrical. Personally, those close to him appreciated his unique combination of humility, candor, and joy, his sharp sense of humor and distinctive laugh, and the deep care he expressed for those around him.
The Springboro Wind Symphony Trombone Section wishes to honor Cristian’s life and contributions to music both locally in the Cincinnati area and internationally.
