Make Our Garden Grow from Candide
Leonard Bernstein
Before I ever held an instrument, she was already teaching me what devotion sounds like. She spent countless hours listening to my earliest, wobbly notes; woke before dawn to drive me to hundreds of 6 a.m. wind ensemble rehearsals; waited through marching band practices and colorguard rehearsals; cheered in the stands at every football game halftime — even the far‑off, late night away games — and pushed equipment across countless competition fields. Through every season, every performance, every moment of doubt or triumph, she stood beside me as my fiercest advocate and my greatest encouragement.
Her faith in me has been the quiet rhythm beneath my entire musical life — steady, patient, unwavering.
This piece is offered in gratitude for the immeasurable ways she has shaped my heart, my artistry, and the path I walk.
I love you, Mommy.
